What you notice

## What perimenopause mood changes can feel like

When you choose perimenopause in Niyora, these are the changes it asks you about.

- Mood swings
- Irritability
- Rage
- Feeling low
- Anxious
- Tearful
- Overwhelmed
- Not feeling like yourself
- Poor sleep
- Hot flushes or night sweats
- Brain fog
- Low energy
- Aches

## Where Niyora fits with what you use now

- ### A symptom tracker Logs hot flushes, sleep and periods so you can spot trends. It has nothing for the minute you snap at someone you love.
- ### Your doctor Can check what is going on and talk through HRT and other treatment. The next appointment might be weeks away.
- ### Niyora Open it in that minute. Moon helps you name the feeling, calm your body and choose what to say. There are no period predictions, so irregular cycles don’t throw it off.

How it works

## How Niyora helps in the moment

Moon offers three kinds of help, one card at a time, and brings more of what you like.

- 01 Reflect ### Name the feeling Write what happened to Moon, Niyora’s AI, in a sentence or two. Moon helps you find the word for it, like irritable, dismissed or overwhelmed. Naming it takes some of the edge off.
- 02 Regulate ### Calm your body Breathe with Moon, in for four and out for six, or settle into a short calming scene. You can also color a picture, read a short true story, or step away for 20 minutes with your hands busy.
- 03 Respond ### Wait, then choose what to say Hold the reply for 20 minutes, or let Moon help you write it. Make it shorter, softer or more direct, or save it for later. You decide if it goes anywhere.

Your patterns

## See what time of day your feelings build

Home places each feeling you name with Moon on a line from morning to night. Once a feeling has come up three times over two days, Home tells you something like “Mostly in the evening”, so you know which part of the day to plan around.

Logging your period is optional. If your periods have changed, log them or bring them in from Apple Health. There are no predictions and no PMS days, so a late or skipped period never sets off a wrong countdown. Over time you can see whether your moods follow your periods.

The research

## What studies have found

80%

of women 35 and over in a global survey reported irritability. Hot flashes were the sign women most often recognised.

[Mayo Clinic, Menopause, 2026](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41603602/)

15 to 18%

of women in early perimenopause had lasting mood symptoms such as irritability or nervousness, against 8 to 12% before it. 3,302 women aged 42 to 52.

[American Journal of Epidemiology, 2003](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12915500/)

40%

higher odds of depression or depressive symptoms in perimenopause than before it, across 7 studies of 9,141 women.

[Journal of Affective Disorders, 2024](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38642901/)

154 studies

In sleep loss experiments with 5,717 people, less sleep meant fewer good feelings and more anxiety.

If your mood changes are new or strong, last most days for two weeks or more, or you have thoughts of hurting yourself, see your doctor and bring notes on your moods and periods. Low moods that come in the week before each period and ease once it starts can fit PMS or PMDD, which can get stronger in perimenopause, so mention that pattern too.

## Questions

Is Niyora an app for perimenopause mood changes?

+

Niyora helps women in perimenopause in the minute a feeling takes over, like irritability, rage or anxiety. Choose perimenopause when you open the app, and its questions and Home are set up for it. Niyora does not diagnose perimenopause or treat its symptoms, and it works alongside your doctor.

Is irritability a sign of perimenopause?

+

Irritability becomes more likely in perimenopause. In a US study of 3,302 women aged 42 to 52, 15 to 18% of women in early perimenopause had lasting mood symptoms such as irritability or nervousness, against 8 to 12% before it. New or strong mood changes are worth raising with your doctor.

Is it perimenopause or PMDD?

+

PMDD symptoms come in the last week before each period and ease within a few days of it starting. Perimenopause mood changes can come at any point in the month as periods turn irregular. The two can overlap, and PMS or PMDD can get stronger in perimenopause. Two months of daily notes help a doctor tell them apart.

Do I have to track my periods?

+

No. Period logging is optional when you choose perimenopause in Niyora, and there are no period predictions or PMS days, so irregular cycles don’t throw anything off. If you log periods, or bring them in from Apple Health, you can see over time whether your moods follow them, and show your doctor.

Does Niyora give advice about HRT?

+

No. Moon does not advise on hormone therapy, medication or supplements, and it points those questions to your doctor. Niyora helps with the moment itself, like snapping at someone you love, a 3am worry, or a message you are about to send.

Is Niyora free?

+

Niyora is free to download, with 5 Moon moments a month. Home, your feelings chart, breathing and period logging stay free. Premium removes the monthly limit on Moon, at $8.99 a month or $29.99 a year.
