# How many nursing officers have PMS and what coping measures do they use?

About 63% of nursing officers in a study had PMS, and most used strategies like rest, exercise, or calcium to cope. This was a very small study, so the results may not apply to all nursing officers.

 Early or limited evidence

30 nursing officers in Pune, India

## What they did

Researchers asked 30 nursing officers questions based on diagnostic criteria to assess whether they had PMS and what methods they used to manage symptoms.

## What they found

63% (with 95% confidence interval) met criteria for PMS. 84% used at least one coping measure, most commonly rest, exercise, analgesics, meditation, yoga, and calcium. 20% reported decreased work performance, 13.33% reported decreased home responsibility, and 10% reported worsened relationships with coworkers and patients.

## What it means for you

Many nursing officers experience PMS and try various strategies to manage it, though some notice impacts on their work and relationships. The study was very small (only 30 women) in one hospital, so results may not apply more broadly.
