# Can teaching about lifestyle changes help girls understand how to prevent PMS?

Yes. Before teaching, 78% of girls had poor knowledge about PMS prevention. After the teaching program, 38% had good knowledge and 60% had average knowledge.

 Early or limited evidence

50 adolescent girls in a school in Dehlon, Ludhiana

## What they did

50 adolescent girls answered a questionnaire about lifestyle changes for preventing PMS. They then received a planned teaching program. On the eighth day, they answered the same questionnaire again.

## What they found

In the pre-test, 78% had poor knowledge, 22% had average knowledge, and 0% had good knowledge. In the post-test, 2% had poor knowledge, 60% had average knowledge, and 38% had good knowledge.

## What it means for you

Teaching girls about lifestyle changes can improve their knowledge about preventing PMS. However, this was one school in one city, the study only measured knowledge (not actual behavior or symptom improvement), and there was no control group.
