# How common is PMS in young and middle-aged women and how many receive treatment?

PMS affects most women regularly or occasionally across age groups. Most women experience symptoms like back pain, leg cramps, and fatigue, but only one-third receive treatment.

 Early or limited evidence

100 women (50 young, 50 middle-aged)

## What they did

A cross-sectional survey of 100 women (50 young women and 50 middle-aged women) at a medical institute. They completed a questionnaire about PMS symptoms and whether they had received treatment.

## What they found

Of the 100 women, 42% faced PMS regularly while 58% experienced it occasionally. Common symptoms included backache (68%), leg cramps (64%), fatigue (62%), breast tenderness (62%), and anger (62%). Anxiety and general body ache affected 58% of participants. Only 34% of women with PMS had received treatment for it.

## What it means for you

PMS affects nearly all women but is often untreated. The study does not explain why so few women receive treatment or what prevents them from seeking help. The study was small and from a single medical institute in one country.
