# What attitudes do nursing students have toward premenstrual dysphoric disorder?

Most nursing students (51.6%) had positive attitudes toward PMDD, while 49.4% had moderate attitudes. This study only measured attitudes, not clinical knowledge or skills.

 Early or limited evidence

60 early adulthood female nursing students in Bengaluru, India

## What they did

Descriptive cross-sectional survey. 60 female nursing students in early adulthood in Bengaluru completed a demographic form and PMDD checklist. Researchers used convenience sampling, recruiting available students rather than randomly selecting.

## What they found

31 students (51.6%) had high attitude scores and 29 (49.4%) had moderate attitude scores. Mean attitude score was 32.783 (SD 4.498, p < 0.0001). Attitudes were significantly associated with age, course, religion, residence, diet, age at menarche, history of severe PMS, family history of severe PMS, and previous knowledge about PMDD.

## What it means for you

Nursing students generally view PMDD positively, but some need better education, especially those without family experience or prior knowledge. This study only measured attitudes, not actual clinical skills. The convenience sampling means results may not represent all nursing students.
