# Does teaching adolescent girls about PMS improve their knowledge?

Yes. After teaching, 64% had excellent knowledge and 36% had good knowledge, compared to 0% before. However, without a control group, we cannot confirm the teaching caused this improvement.

 Early or limited evidence

50 adolescent girls from an English-medium high school in Bagalkot, India.

## What they did

50 teenage girls took a test about PMS knowledge before a structured teaching program, then took the same test afterward.

## What they found

Before teaching: 12% very poor, 66% poor, 22% average, 0% good or excellent. After teaching: 36% good, 64% excellent.

## What it means for you

Educational programs can improve girls' knowledge about PMS. The study is small (50 girls in one school) and has no comparison group, so we cannot be certain the teaching program caused the improvement. Conducted in India.

50

girls studied

66%

had poor knowledge before teaching

64%

had excellent knowledge after teaching
