# Does teaching about PMS improve nursing students' knowledge?

Yes. The teaching program increased students' knowledge about PMS and its management. However, this study measured knowledge gain only, not whether teaching helped improve actual PMS symptoms.

 Early or limited evidence

Female nursing students from one nursing school in Bareilly, India

## What they did

Female nursing students from one nursing school took a knowledge test before and after a structured teaching program about PMS and its management.

## What they found

Mean post-test knowledge score was 21.08, compared to a mean pre-test score of 16.26, showing an improvement of 4.82 points. Knowledge improved significantly. There were significant associations between PMS knowledge and certain demographic factors including religion and source of information about PMS.

## What it means for you

Education can increase knowledge about PMS among nursing students. However, this study only measured whether students learned facts, not whether teaching improved their own PMS symptoms or health outcomes. The study was limited to one nursing school in one city, so results may not apply elsewhere.
