# Is PMS linked to body size and how much time women spend sitting?

Yes. Women with higher PMS severity had larger waist circumference, higher waist-to-hip ratio, and spent more time being sedentary, especially on weekends.

 Early or limited evidence

Young women (sample size not specified in abstract)

## What they did

Researchers measured young women's waist and hip circumference with a tape measure and asked questionnaires about PMS symptoms and sedentary time (sitting), including on weekends. They looked for connections between body measurements and PMS severity.

## What they found

Women with higher PMS scores had larger waist circumference, higher waist-to-hip ratio, and more sedentary time. Waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, weekend sedentary time, total sedentary time, and menstrual period length all showed positive links with PMS severity.

## What it means for you

PMS appears connected to lifestyle factors like physical activity and body composition, not only hormones. This is a one-time survey, so we cannot tell whether sedentary behavior causes PMS or whether having PMS leads to more sitting. No control group was studied.

Multiple
