# Does Ayurvedic medicine help PMS?

Yes. One 18-year-old woman's mood swings, irritability, and concentration problems were completely relieved after one month of Ayurvedic herbs and weekly therapy sessions.

 Early or limited evidence

One 18-year-old woman with PMS for 2 years

## What they did

One 18-year-old woman with PMS who had severe mood swings, irritability, sudden tearfulness, anger, nervousness, poor concentration, and forgetfulness in the week before her period (for 2 years) received two treatments for one month. She took Ayurvedic herbs internally: Hingvashtakadi vati and Ashwagandha. She also attended weekly therapy sessions based on traditional counseling methods.

## What they found

After one month, her mood-related symptoms were completely relieved. Her thinking became clear. Her attention and concentration improved.

## What it means for you

Ayurvedic herbs combined with weekly therapy may help PMS symptoms. This is based on one woman, so we cannot be certain it would work for everyone. To know if this treatment really helps PMS, researchers would need to study many more women and compare those who received treatment to those who did not.
