# Do girls with PMS have different brain organization than girls without?

Girls with PMS showed more mixed patterns of hand and eye coordination, but we don't yet know if this causes PMS or what it means for treatment.

 Early or limited evidence

79 adolescent girls aged 14-18 in Turkey

## What they did

Cross-sectional study of 79 female adolescents aged 14-18. Researchers tested which hand and eye each girl favoured during the luteal phase (days before menstruation) using the Harris lateralization test.

## What they found

Girls with PMS were more likely to have indeterminate or mixed hand-eye coordination. The sample included 35 girls (44.30%) without PMS, 20 (25.32%) with mild PMS, 14 (17.72%) with moderate, and 10 (12.66%) with severe PMS.

## What it means for you

The study found a possible link between mixed hand-eye coordination and PMS. However, it was small, cross-sectional (measures only associations, not causes), and limited to adolescents in Turkey. More research is needed to understand what this means.

79

adolescent girls studied

12.66%

with severe PMS

51.90%

with matching hand-eye dominance
