# How do lifestyles differ between women with and without PMS?

Women with PMS had worse diets, higher stress, and more secondhand smoke exposure compared to women without PMS, all statistically significant. But we cannot prove these factors cause PMS.

 Early or limited evidence

200 university students with and without PMS living in dorms

## What they did

Surveyed 200 university students living in dorms about PMS symptoms, diet quality, perceived stress, and unhealthy behaviors including secondhand smoke exposure.

## What they found

Nutrition style, perceived stress, and passive tobacco smoke exposure were all significantly different between women with and without PMS (all p=0.001). When analyzed together using logistic regression, all three factors remained significantly different (nutrition and stress p=0.001, tobacco smoke p=0.008).

## What it means for you

Healthy eating, lower stress, and avoiding secondhand smoke may help prevent or reduce PMS. However, this is an observational study showing only association, not causation. It was done in one university setting and needs confirmation.
