# Can psychological immunity and coping skills reduce anxiety and depression in women with PMS?

Psychological immunity and coping strategies were strongly linked to lower anxiety and depression in women with PMS. Self-regulation was the strongest protective factor.

 Moderate study design

120 women with moderate or severe PMS

## What they did

Cross-sectional study of 120 women with moderate or severe PMS. Researchers used questionnaires to measure anxiety, depression, psychological immunity (including self-regulation and social skills), and coping strategies, then analyzed which psychological factors predicted better mental health.

## What they found

Psychological immunity and coping strategies were significantly linked to better mental health. Self-regulation explained 28.9% of the reduction in anxiety and 15.3% of the reduction in depression. Synchronicity and social monitoring capacity also predicted better coping strategies.

## What it means for you

Building psychological resilience and self-regulation skills may help reduce PMS-related anxiety and depression. This is a cross-sectional study, so we cannot confirm cause and effect or whether these skills developed before or after PMS symptoms.
