Study, 2020

# Is there a link between PMS and stress in nursing students?

Yes. Among 151 nursing students, those with more frequent PMS symptoms also reported higher stress levels.

 Early or limited evidence

151 nursing students in Turkey (2nd, 3rd, and 4th year)

## What they did

Researchers studied 151 nursing students in Turkey using questionnaires. They measured how often students had PMS symptoms and how stressed they felt.

## What they found

76.2 percent of nursing students had PMS. The most common symptom was depressive mood. Those with more frequent PMS had higher stress levels.

## What it means for you

There is a link between PMS and stress in nursing students. However, we cannot tell if stress causes PMS, PMS causes stress, or if something else causes both. Results may differ in other groups of women.
