# Does education about PMS symptoms help reduce pain and stress?

Yes. Women who received education about PMS symptoms had lower pain and stress levels than the control group, especially if their symptoms were more severe to begin with.

 Moderate study design

110 women with PMS (101 completed follow-up)

## What they did

110 women with PMS were randomly assigned to receive structured education based on a PMS symptom map with self-care strategies, or usual care. The study ran from May to December 2024, and 101 women completed follow-up. Researchers measured pain, stress, depression, and life satisfaction.

## What they found

Women who got education had lower pain (4.21 versus 6.81) and stress (8.54 versus 12.03) compared to the control group. The education worked especially well for women with worse baseline symptoms. Women also reported better life satisfaction, which was linked to less depression.

## What it means for you

Teaching women structured information about their PMS symptoms and self-care strategies reduces pain and stress, particularly for those with more severe symptoms. This approach could be used in regular gynecology clinics. The study is recent and relatively small, so findings need confirmation in larger studies.
