Eating fried foods, sweet drinks, and fast food are linked to more PMS, while eating fruit and regular exercise are linked to less. Family history of PMS and larger hip measurements are also linked to more PMS.

 Early or limited evidence

200 female high school students in Sabzevar, Iran

## What they did

Cross-sectional study of 200 female high school students in Sabzevar city, Iran during 2016-2017. Researchers asked girls about their diet, exercise, and family history, and measured their height, weight, and hip size.

## What they found

Significant relationships found: fried foods (P=0.017), sweet drinks (P=0.018), fast food (P=0.048), low fruit intake (P=0.012), no regular exercise (P=0.006), family history of PMS (P=0.002), larger hip circumference (P=0.04), and higher BMI (P=0.04).

## What it means for you

Your diet and exercise choices may influence PMS symptoms, and your family history matters. But this study only covered one city in Iran and cannot prove these factors cause PMS, only that they are linked.
