# Does knowing about PMS affect how teenagers manage it?

Most midwifery students (85%) had low knowledge about PMS, and about 53% had adequate attitudes toward managing it. The study found a relationship between knowledge and attitudes about PMS.

 Early or limited evidence

113 midwifery students at one Indonesian health institute

## What they did

Cross-sectional study of 113 midwifery students in Indonesia. Researchers used questionnaires to measure knowledge about PMS and attitudes toward managing it. Participants were selected using proportional stratified random sampling.

## What they found

85% of students had low knowledge about PMS. About 53.1% had adequate attitudes toward managing PMS. A relationship was found between knowledge and attitudes about PMS.

## What it means for you

Most students in this midwifery program did not know much about PMS, and some had adequate coping strategies. Better education about PMS might help. However, this was a small study limited to one school, and it only measured knowledge and attitudes, not actual outcomes.
