# Does PMS affect how women control emotions and feel socially connected?

Women with more PMS symptoms had poorer emotional regulation and felt more socially isolated. This is a small single-location study showing an association.

 Early or limited evidence

100 adult women in Delhi, India, ages 18-25 and 30-45

## What they did

Researchers surveyed 100 adult women in Delhi, India, ages 18-25 and 30-45 years. They used three questionnaires to measure PMS symptoms, emotional regulation, and loneliness and examined connections between them.

## What they found

Greater PMS symptoms were linked to worse emotional regulation. Increased PMS severity was linked to increased social isolation. Women aged 30-45 had higher PMS symptom rates than those aged 18-25.

## What it means for you

PMS affects emotional health and social connection, not just the body. Since this is cross-sectional, we cannot know whether PMS causes these problems or whether emotional difficulties cause PMS.
