# Can peer education help nursing students manage PMS symptoms?

Peer-led education increased knowledge about PMS self-care in nursing students. It is unclear whether actual symptoms improved.

 Early or limited evidence

93 nursing students, 83 with PMS symptoms

## What they did

93 nursing students were screened for PMS symptoms. Those with symptoms received online education about self-care management delivered by peer educators, who were other students trained to teach. Knowledge was measured before and after the education.

## What they found

83 of 93 students (89.25%) had PMS symptoms: 3.23% mild, 83.87% moderate, and 2.15% severe. PMS caused problems with school concentration and motivation. After education, average knowledge increased from 72.8 to 78.2.

## What it means for you

Most nursing students in the study had PMS, and peer education increased their knowledge about managing it. Using student peers as educators made the learning feel comfortable. But the study did not measure whether symptoms actually got better, and there was no control group to compare to.
