# Does eating avocado reduce PMS symptoms?

Yes. PMS symptom scores dropped significantly when first-year students ate avocado, from an average of 18.20 to 14.13.

 Early or limited evidence

47 first-year midwifery students in Indonesia

## What they did

Study of 47 first-year midwifery students in Indonesia from February to July 2017. Each student's PMS symptoms were measured before and after eating avocado.

## What they found

Average PMS score before avocado was 18.20. Average PMS score after avocado was 14.13. The difference was statistically significant (p=0.000).

## What it means for you

Avocado may help reduce PMS symptoms, likely because it contains vitamin B6, vitamin E, magnesium, calcium, and vitamin D. However, there was no control group for comparison, so we cannot be sure the avocado itself caused the improvement rather than other factors like habits or time.
