# How common is premenstrual syndrome in Saudi women and what symptoms do they experience?

PMS is common in Saudi women. The most frequently reported symptoms were severe body aches (40.9%), severe mood swings (37.5%), and mild lack of concentration (36.2%).

 Moderate study design

224 Saudi women with complete data (mostly university students aged 21-25, mostly single)

## What they did

Cross-sectional survey in Saudi Arabia from January to April 2020. Pharmacists distributed questionnaires to 383 women; 224 with complete responses were analyzed. Most were university students aged 21-25 and single.

## What they found

Most women experienced PMS symptoms. Severe body aches affected 40.9%, severe mood swings 37.5%, mild lack of concentration 36.2%, breast pain 31.3%, mild lack of performance 34.4%, and mild sweats 25.1%. Negative effects, behavior changes, and physical symptoms were most common.

## What it means for you

PMS is very common in Saudi women and affects mood, concentration, and physical well-being. Healthcare providers should educate women about managing PMS through lifestyle changes. The study mainly included young, single university students, so findings may not represent all Saudi women.
