PMS symptoms are common and significant in working women teachers. Physical, behavioral, and psychological symptoms are strongly connected - women with severe body symptoms also tend to have mood and behavior changes.

 Early or limited evidence

100 working women teachers in Kalaburagi, India

## What they did

Cross-sectional correlation study of 100 working women teachers at schools in Kalaburagi, India. Researchers measured physiological (body-related), behavioral (action-related), and psychological (mood and thinking-related) premenstrual symptoms using questionnaires.

## What they found

Physiological symptoms scored mean 55.60 (70% of max), behavioral symptoms 45.32 (78% of max), and psychological symptoms 46.90 (80% of max). Overall mean was 150.15 (75% of max). Strong positive correlations were found between physiological and psychological symptoms (r=0.810, p<0.001), physiological and behavioral symptoms (r=0.729, p<0.001), and psychological and behavioral symptoms (r=0.627, p<0.001).

## What it means for you

PMS affects multiple areas at the same time - body, mood, and behavior are interconnected. This suggests PMS is a whole-person condition. The study only included teachers in India, so results may not apply to women in other occupations or countries.
