# How many women in Turkey have PMS?

About 52.2% of Turkish reproductive age women have PMS. Rates vary by group: 59% of high school students, 50.3% of university students, and 66% of women in the general population.

 Strong study design

6890 Turkish reproductive age women (18 studies)

## What they did

Systematic review and meta-analysis. Searched 5 databases (Turkish Medline, PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, ISI Web of Knowledge) for studies from 2014 to 2018. Included 18 studies conducted in Turkey that reported PMS prevalence. Total of 6890 women were included across these studies.

## What they found

Overall PMS prevalence was 52.2%. Subgroup prevalence: 59% in high school students, 50.3% in university students, and 66% in the general population. Age of participants had no significant relationship with PMS prevalence.

## What it means for you

About half of Turkish women experience PMS. The higher rate in the general population might reflect different ways of measuring PMS. The main limitation is these findings are specific to Turkey and based on studies from 2014-2018, so rates may differ in other countries.
