# How common is dysmenorrhea related to PMS in university students, and how do they treat it?

 Early or limited evidence

320 female university students in Karachi, average age 22 years

## What they did

Cross-sectional survey of 320 female university students in Karachi with average age 22 years. Asked about PMS symptoms and self-management methods.

## What they found

54% had PMS with dysmenorrhea. Among symptoms: 97% nausea, 96% backache/abdominal pain, 95% irritability/pelvic discomfort, 85% anxiety/depression, 68% breast tenderness, 66% headache, 58% vomiting. 93% used medicinal plants for treatment, 7% used allopathic medication.
