# How common is PMS in working women and does it affect their work-life quality?

This survey of 600 working women found that 48% have PMS. Of those with PMS, 35% report lower work-life quality, a statistically significant difference meaning PMS significantly affects work satisfaction.

 Moderate study design

600 working women across 5 professional groups in Kochi, India

## What they did

A survey of 600 working women across 5 professional groups in Kochi, India. Women answered questions about PMS symptoms and work-life quality.

## What they found

48% screened positive for PMS. Among women with PMS, 35% had lower quality of work life (p<0.001), a statistically significant difference. Education, occupation, and sexual activity were significantly associated with both PMS and with work-life quality in women with PMS.

## What it means for you

Nearly half of working women in India have PMS and it significantly affects their work satisfaction. However, the study cannot tell us if PMS causes lower work satisfaction or if another factor causes both. The study also cannot tell us if interventions could improve work life for women with PMS.
