# Does bromocriptine or pyridoxine help reduce PMS symptoms?

Both bromocriptine and pyridoxine significantly reduced PMS symptoms over 3 months. Pyridoxine showed a higher response rate with fewer side effects.

 Moderate study design

60 women aged 20-45 with PMS (20 per treatment group)

## What they did

RCT comparing bromocriptine (2.5 mg twice daily), pyridoxine (100 mg/day), and placebo (ferrous sulphate 100 mg) in 60 women aged 20-45 with PMS. Women were followed monthly for 3 months and symptom scores were recorded before and after treatment.

## What they found

The placebo group showed no significant change. Both bromocriptine and pyridoxine significantly reduced mean premenstrual symptom scores. Pyridoxine showed a significantly higher response rate and lower rate of side effects compared to bromocriptine.

## What it means for you

Both drugs can reduce PMS symptoms, but pyridoxine appears safer and more effective. The main limit is the small sample size of 20 women per treatment group, so these results may not apply to larger or more diverse populations.
