# Does Emotional Freedom Technique reduce PMS symptoms and pain?

Yes, Emotional Freedom Technique significantly reduced PMS symptoms and pain scores. Results were statistically significant, though the study was small.

 Moderate study design

44 university students aged 18-25 with PMS and regular menstrual cycles

## What they did

Randomized controlled trial with 44 university students aged 18-25 with PMS who scored 111 or above on the Premenstrual Syndrome Scale. The intervention group received Emotional Freedom Technique for 3 sessions over 3 months. The control group received no treatment. Pain, PMS severity, and well-being were measured before and after.

## What they found

The EFT group showed significant decreases in pain scores and PMS severity scores, and significant increases in subjective well-being scores (p less than 0.05).

## What it means for you

Emotional Freedom Technique may reduce PMS symptoms and pain. However, the study was small and included only university students aged 18-25, so results may not apply to all women.
