# Does PMS reduce how well nurses perform their clinical work?

Yes. Nurses with more severe PMS had significantly lower clinical performance scores. PMS predicted 26.5% of differences in how well nurses performed.

 Moderate study design

318 female nurses in public hospitals in Sanandaj, Iran

## What they did

Cross-sectional study of 318 female nurses in public hospitals in Sanandaj, Iran. Researchers used questionnaires to measure PMS symptoms and evaluated clinical performance using structured assessments.

## What they found

The average PMS score was 30.8 ± 11.45 (indicating severe PMS). Average clinical performance score was 45.78 ± 35.29 (indicating average performance). PMS had a significant negative correlation with clinical performance and all its components. PMS predicted 26.5% of the differences in clinical performance scores. For each unit increase in PMS score, clinical performance decreased by 0.396 standard deviations after adjusting for other factors.

## What it means for you

PMS appears to significantly reduce work performance in nurses. Managing PMS symptoms could help improve workplace efficiency. The study was limited to nurses in one Iranian city, so results may not apply to other occupations or countries. Cross-sectional design shows association but does not prove that PMS causes reduced performance.
