Early or limited evidence One 37-year-old woman with schizophrenia and premenstrual mood changes ## What they did Doctors treated one 37-year-old woman with schizophrenia who had severe mood changes before her period. She had tried high doses of antidepressants and birth control pills (which caused bad side effects). She was given dienogest, a medication usually used for endometriosis. ## What they found Her mental health improved. She was able to return to work and had no adverse effects from the medication. ## What it means for you This is one woman's experience. She also had endometriosis, so we're not sure if dienogest would help others with just the mood symptoms.
