# Does the desogestrel-only pill help treat PMS in teenagers?

In this one case, yes. A 13-year-old girl with PMS became symptom-free after three months on the desogestrel-only pill.

 Early or limited evidence

1 girl, 13 years old, with PMS and family history of blood clotting problems

## What they did

Doctors gave a 13-year-old girl with PMS the desogestrel-only pill, which stops ovulation, and followed her for three months. She couldn't use combined birth control pills because of a family history of blood clotting problems.

## What they found

The girl was symptom-free at her follow-up visit three months later.

## What it means for you

The desogestrel-only pill may be an option for teenagers with PMS who cannot use combined birth control pills. This is one case, so we don't know how well it works for other teenagers. More studies are needed.
