Does kinesiotaping work better than myofascial release for PMS pain?

Yes, kinesiotaping with aerobic exercise reduced pain more effectively than myofascial release and aerobic exercise, though the study was very small.

Early or limited evidence 20 women with premenstrual syndrome

What they did

Twenty women with PMS were divided into two groups of 10. Group A received myofascial release (manual therapy with sustained stretching) plus aerobic exercise. Group B received kinesiotaping (elastic tape application) plus aerobic exercise. Pain was measured before and after treatment using a pain scale.

What they found

Both groups showed significant pain improvement. Kinesiotaping with aerobic exercise produced greater pain reduction than myofascial release with aerobic exercise.

What it means for you

Kinesiotaping combined with aerobic exercise may help reduce PMS pain more effectively than myofascial release. However, this study had only 20 women total with no placebo comparison group, making the results unreliable for drawing firm conclusions.
