Survey study, 2023
What do adolescent girls know about PMS?
Most girls (86.67%) had good knowledge about PMS, but 10% had poor knowledge. Girls whose mothers had higher education knew more about PMS.
What they did
They tested 30 girls aged 16-20 years in Maharashtra, India, using a questionnaire to see how much they knew about PMS. They also looked at whether factors like family type and mother's education affected their knowledge.
What they found
Out of 30 girls, 10% had poor knowledge, 86.67% had good knowledge, and 3.33% had excellent knowledge. Mother's education and family type were linked with knowledge scores.
What it means for you
Most girls in this group had good knowledge about PMS. Mother's education mattered for what girls knew. The main limitation is the very small sample size (only 30 girls) and it was only done in one state in India, so results may not apply to all girls.
