Survey study, 2022
What are the main symptoms of PMDD in Moroccan women?
Women with PMDD in Morocco experience depression, difficulty concentrating, and mood changes. Most also have physical symptoms, with muscle and joint pain the most common (82%).
What they did
Researchers surveyed 675 women in Morocco using Facebook between November 2021 and January 2022. They used a symptom checklist and medical criteria (DSM-5) to identify who had PMDD.
What they found
Of 675 women surveyed, 372 (55%) met the criteria for PMDD. The most common emotional symptoms were depression, difficulty concentrating, loss of interest in activities, and mood changes. Physical symptoms were present in more than 60%, with muscle and joint pain reported by 82%.
What it means for you
PMDD affects many women with these specific emotional and physical symptoms. However, this study only included women who use Facebook, so the results may not represent all women in Morocco.
