Survey study, 2021
Do women with PMS have higher blood pressure?
Yes. Women with PMS had clearly higher blood pressure before their period compared to women without PMS.
What they did
Researchers compared blood pressure in 580 university students in Tehran, Iran. They used a questionnaire to identify who had PMS and measured blood pressure in both groups with and without PMS.
What they found
A clear difference appeared in blood pressure before menstruation. Women with PMS had higher blood pressure than women without PMS.
What it means for you
Blood pressure may rise during the PMS phase of the cycle. The main limit is that this was a descriptive study in one university in one country, so results may not apply to all women.
