Survey study, 2006

Is the DRSP questionnaire reliable for diagnosing PMDD?

Yes. The DRSP reliably measures PMDD symptoms and detects changes from treatment, with high test-retest reliability and internal consistency.

Moderate study design 27 women with varying premenstrual symptoms (Study A) and 243 women with PMDD (Study B)

What they did

Two validation studies. Study A included 27 women with varying premenstrual symptoms. Study B included 243 women who met criteria for PMDD. Researchers tested how reliable the questionnaire was and how well it correlated with other measures of severity.

What they found

Individual items and summary scores had high test-retest reliability in both studies. Internal consistency of summary scores was high in both studies. Summary scores had moderate to high correlations with other measures of severity. Items and scores were sensitive to treatment changes in Study B.

What it means for you

Doctors can use the DRSP to diagnose PMDD and track whether treatment works. This validates a diagnostic tool but does not test treatments or causes.
