Does pilates plus breathing exercise help quality of life and sleep in women with PMS?
Yes. After 8 weeks, women who did pilates and breathing exercises had clear improvements in quality of life and sleep compared to those who did breathing only.
What they did
132 medical students with PMS were split into two groups. One group did pilates and breathing exercises 3 times a week for 8 weeks; the other just did breathing exercises. Quality of life and sleep were measured before and after.
What they found
The pilates plus breathing group showed improvements in quality of life and sleep. The biggest improvements were in how long they slept and in feeling rested during the day.
What it means for you
Pilates and breathing exercises may help women with PMS sleep better and feel better overall. The study was only done in medical students, so results may not apply to other groups.
