Do kinesio taping and hot packs reduce premenstrual syndrome symptoms?
Yes, kinesio taping alone and combined with hot packs both reduced PMS symptoms in women in their 20s.
What they did
32 women in their 20s with PMS were randomly assigned to three groups: taping only (10 women), hot pack only (11 women), or taping with hot pack (11 women). Each group received treatment for the 10 days before their period plus the first day of menstruation. PMS symptoms were measured before and after using a standard questionnaire.
What they found
Both the taping group and the taping with hot pack group showed significantly reduced PMS symptoms. The hot pack group also showed improvement, with a significant difference when compared to the taping with hot pack group.
What it means for you
Kinesio taping may reduce PMS without drugs. The study was very small with college-age women only, so results may not apply to all women or to older ages.
