Survey study, 2026
Does yoga reduce PMS severity in adolescent girls?
Yes. Adolescent girls who did yoga for 12 weeks had significantly reduced PMS severity compared to those who did not do yoga.
What they did
Researchers screened 450 adolescent girls in Punjab, India for PMS. They then enrolled 100 girls with PMS into a 12-week yoga group (50 girls) or control group without yoga (50 girls). PMS severity was measured at the start, after 8 weeks, and after 12 weeks.
What they found
Of the 450 screened girls, 68% had PMS symptoms. Ninety-four girls completed the study (48 in yoga, 46 in control). The yoga group had significantly reduced PMS severity compared to the control group (P = 0.032).
What it means for you
Yoga may help reduce PMS symptoms in adolescent girls. The study was small, took place in one location in India, and did not use a placebo control. Dropout rates may have affected the results.
