Survey study, 2014
How common is PMS in university students and does it affect their quality of life?
PMS is common among university students and clearly reduces quality of life in all areas. Interestingly, overweight and obese students had lower rates of PMS than normal-weight students.
What they did
1008 university students in Turkey aged 17-25 (median age 21) completed questionnaires about PMS symptoms and quality of life. Researchers looked for patterns between PMS and other factors including weight.
What they found
Students with PMS had lower quality of life scores in all areas measured compared to students without PMS. PMS was less common in overweight or obese students than in normal-weight students.
