Does physical activity help reduce PMS?
This study found a clear relationship between physical activity and PMS, with more activity linked to less PMS. However, the sample size is not stated in the abstract and this type of study cannot prove that activity causes fewer symptoms.
What they did
Cross-sectional study of midwifery students at a college in Indonesia. Researchers measured physical activity using a 24-hour physical activity recall form and PMS symptoms using a standard assessment form.
What they found
There was a clear relationship between how much physical activity students did and whether they had PMS. Students with more physical activity had less PMS.
What it means for you
Being physically active may help reduce PMS symptoms, though this is observational data and does not prove activity causes lower PMS. The study does not state how many students were included or what the effect size was.
