Survey study, 2021
Are physical activity, stress, and sleep related to PMS in female pharmacy students?
Yes. The study found significant relationships between each factor (physical activity, stress, and sleep patterns) and PMS, though the abstract does not specify exactly how.
What they did
Cross-sectional survey of 97 female pharmacy students. Students completed questionnaires about physical activity, stress, sleep patterns, and PMS symptoms via Google Form. Researchers used chi-square statistical tests to analyze whether these factors were related to PMS.
What they found
There was a significant statistical relationship between physical activity and PMS. There was a significant statistical relationship between stress and PMS. There was a significant statistical relationship between sleep patterns and PMS. The abstract does not specify the direction of these relationships or the magnitude of the effects.
What it means for you
Physical activity, stress, and sleep patterns appear to be connected to PMS in this group of students. This suggests these lifestyle factors may be important for understanding or managing PMS. However, the abstract doesn't explain whether more sleep helps or hurts, or how strong the effect is. The study is from one college in Indonesia, so results may not apply elsewhere.
