Does job stress affect how much PMS women experience?
Women who reported more job stress also reported more PMS symptoms. Painful periods, heavy menstrual bleeding, and job stress were all connected to worse PMS.
What they did
Researchers surveyed 226 female university students from three cities in Korea. They used questionnaires to measure health-promoting behaviors, job stress, and PMS symptoms.
What they found
Women who experienced more job stress reported more PMS symptoms. Having painful periods was connected to worse PMS. Having heavier menstrual bleeding was connected to worse PMS. Job stress was connected to worse PMS. The study showed a clear connection between job stress and PMS severity.
What it means for you
Among these university students, job stress seems connected to how bad PMS symptoms are. Women facing job stress might experience worse PMS. This study shows these things go together but does not prove that stress causes PMS or that reducing stress will reduce PMS. Results come from young university students in Korea, so may not apply to older women, men, or women in other countries.
