Non-randomised trial, 2024
Does moringa leaf and sweet corn pudding reduce PMS symptoms?
Yes. Women given moringa and sweet corn pudding had clearer reduction in PMS symptoms than those given education about vegetables. However, this is a small study from one country without blinding, so we cannot be very confident.
What they did
Researchers studied 60 young women with PMS in Indonesia, split into two groups of 30. One group received moringa leaf and sweet corn pudding (one-quarter portion daily starting from day 14 of their menstrual cycle) for one menstrual cycle. The other group received education about eating green vegetables. Both groups reported PMS symptoms before and after.
What they found
PMS symptoms decreased significantly more in the pudding group than in the control group. Among all young women screened in the setting, 95% had some PMS symptoms and 3.9% had moderate to severe PMS. The pudding contains calcium, potassium, and vitamin C.
What it means for you
Moringa and sweet corn pudding may help reduce PMS symptoms. This suggests dietary changes could help. The main limitations are the small sample size, participants knowing which group they were in, and single country, so we cannot be sure these results apply elsewhere.
