What percentage of female university students in Lahore have PMS?

About half (50.62%) of female university students at University of Lahore experience PMS, though this is just one university in Pakistan.

Early or limited evidence 243 female university students in Lahore, Pakistan

What they did

Researchers surveyed 243 female students from different departments at University of Lahore. They used a questionnaire called the Premenstrual Syndrome Scale to measure PMS symptoms and looked at how PMS related to age, menstrual cycle length, where students lived, their field of study, and lifestyle factors.

What they found

50.62% of the 243 students experienced PMS. The study examined differences in age, menstrual cycle length, duration of menstruation, age at PMS onset, current living situation, field of study, and lifestyle factors.

What it means for you

PMS affects about one in two university students in this Pakistani city. However, this is a single university in one location, so the actual rate may differ elsewhere. The study notes associations with various factors but does not establish whether these factors cause PMS.
