Survey study, 1985
What PMS symptoms do women in China report?
More than half reported mood changes and back pain before their period. Several symptoms tended to cluster together.
What they did
Researchers surveyed 84 Chinese nurses with a questionnaire about premenstrual symptoms.
What they found
More than half reported emotional changes and backache premenstrually. Nausea was associated with breast changes, irritability was linked with depression, body and skin changes occurred together, and backache was connected with irritability, headaches, and needing time off work.
What it means for you
This shows common PMS symptoms in one profession in one country, and that symptoms often occur in clusters. Results may not apply to other countries or professions because the sample was limited.
