Study, 2014
Which women are more likely to have PMS?
PMS is much more common in nursing students who live in dormitories, those with gynecological problems, and those who often eat fast food. About one in every two nursing students experiences PMS.
What they did
Surveyed 184 female nursing students using a PMS symptom scale and a personal information form about where they lived, their health, and their diet.
What they found
The average PMS scale score was 110.49. PMS was much more common in students living in dormitories versus at home, in those with gynecological diseases, and in those who frequently ate fast food instead of fruits and vegetables. About one in every two students had PMS.
What it means for you
Where you live, whether you have a gynecological disease, and what you eat appear connected to PMS severity. This was a study of nursing students in one country, so results may not apply to all women.
