Survey study, 2025

Is a Chinese version of a PMDD screening tool reliable and valid for identifying PMDD?

Yes. The Chinese version is reliable and accurately identifies PMDD in college students. It can distinguish women with PMDD from those without.

Moderate study design 669 Chinese female college students

What they did

669 Chinese female college students completed the Chinese version of the PMDD screening questionnaire (CTDP-C) plus tests for depression and anxiety. Researchers checked how well the tool worked.

What they found

The CTDP-C has 25 items and showed good reliability (McDonald's omega 0.8 for both dimensions). It correlated well with depression and anxiety measures. It could differentiate depressed from non-depressed patients (Cohen's d = 0.72) and anxious from non-anxious patients (Cohen's d = 0.80).

What it means for you

Doctors in China can use this tool to screen for PMDD in college-age women. However, the study only tested college students, so it may not work as well for other age groups or populations.
