Can constitutional homoeopathic treatment improve premenstrual syndrome symptoms?
In this small pilot of 5 women, all showed measurable improvement in PMS symptoms after one menstrual cycle of constitutional homoeopathic treatment, with scores decreasing 12-33 points. Results should be interpreted cautiously due to very small sample size and lack of control group.
What they did
Pilot study of 5 PMS cases meeting ACOG diagnostic criteria. Patients received detailed case-taking, constitutional profiling, and individualized remedy selection based on their emotional temperament and other characteristics. Symptom severity was measured using the Premenstrual Syndrome Scale before and after one menstrual cycle of treatment.
What they found
All 5 patients showed measurable improvement in both emotional and somatic PMS symptoms. Premenstrual Syndrome Scale scores demonstrated reductions ranging from 12 to 33 points. Remedies prescribed were Pulsatilla nigricans, Nux vomica, Calcarea carbonica, Sepia, and Lycopodium clavatum based on individual constitutional traits. Improvement was noted in irritability, mood fluctuations, abdominal discomfort, headache, fatigue, and sleep quality.
What it means for you
Constitutional homoeopathy may provide relief for some PMS symptoms by addressing emotional, physical, and constitutional aspects. However, this is a very small pilot study with only 5 participants and no control group receiving standard treatment or placebo, so these findings are preliminary and need confirmation in larger studies.
