Does education about yoga help treat PMS symptoms?

Knowledge about treating PMS with yoga increased after the education session. Yoga may help control stress, anxiety, depression, and dysmenorrhea, though the study only measured knowledge gain, not symptom improvement.

Early or limited evidence 36 young women from 6 high schools in Tegal City

What they did

36 young women from 6 high schools attended a single health education session on January 5, 2024. The session included slides and leaflets about PMS and yoga, plus practice of yoga poses with a certified instructor. Knowledge was measured with a pretest and posttest.

What they found

Knowledge about treating PMS with yoga increased after the education session. The study noted that yoga can calm the mind, relax the body, and help control stress, anxiety, depression, and dysmenorrhea.

What it means for you

This was a health education session rather than a clinical trial measuring actual symptom change. The study showed that education increased knowledge but did not measure whether PMS symptoms actually improved. Results are limited to 36 women from one city.
