Survey study, 2020

Can teaching about yoga techniques improve girls' knowledge about managing PMS?

Yes. After the teaching program, girls' knowledge about using yoga for PMS increased significantly, with post-test scores more than double the pre-test scores.

Early or limited evidence 100 adolescent girls from 3 high schools in Bangalore, India

What they did

Researchers taught structured yoga techniques to 100 adolescent girls from 3 high schools in Bangalore. They tested knowledge about using yoga for PMS before and after teaching using a questionnaire (reliability r=0.88).

What they found

Post-test knowledge score (26.49) was significantly higher than pre-test score (10.25). The calculated t-value was 51.34 (p<0.05). Knowledge scores were associated with demographic characteristics.

What it means for you

Structured teaching improved girls' knowledge about using yoga for PMS. However, this study only measured knowledge, not whether actual symptoms improved. There was no control group for comparison.
