Randomised trial, 2004
Does qi therapy help premenstrual syndrome?
Yes. Women receiving qi therapy had significant improvements in negative feelings, pain, water retention, and overall PMS symptoms compared to placebo.
What they did
Randomized controlled trial with 36 college women with PMS. After 2 months screening, women were randomly assigned to receive either real qi therapy or placebo (18 each). They received 8 treatments during cycles 2-3 and tracked symptoms in diaries.
What they found
Women receiving qi therapy showed significant improvements in negative feelings, pain, water retention, and total PMS symptoms compared to placebo.
What it means for you
Qi therapy may help PMS, but this was a small study with only 36 women, so more research is needed before being sure.
